JOB TITLE: Paramedic Department: Emergency Medical Services
Annual Salary: $37,503 Closing Date: Open Until Filled
Example of Duties: Under general supervision, performs skilled and technical work in operating an approved mobile medical unit, rescuing victims and administering appropriate emergency medical care to patients while enroute to hospital. Work involves responding to the scene of emergency and non-emergency calls, applying necessary medical treatment to sick or injured persons, and transporting persons to a medical facility. Employee must exercise tact, courtesy and firmness in dealing with sick or injured persons and with the general public. Employee is responsible for performing in accordance with established emergency medical procedures and techniques, but must exercise considerable independent judgment in evaluating and testing victims, and in applying short-term relief. Employee is exposed to the normal hazards of emergency rescue work, including risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Reports to the Paramedic Supervisor.
Qualifications: Graduation from high school with two to three years experience in work related to emergency medical service; or any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Certification by the North Carolina Medical Examiners Board as an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license for duration of employment. The pre-employment process consists of a physical agility test, oral interview, written examination and a practical examination at your current level of certification. The physical agility test (Phase 1) will be scheduled separate from the interview (Phase 2). You must complete and pass the physical agility test before proceeding to phase 2.
